The Database Administrator, as a member of the cloud operations team, is expected to contribute significantly to team goals in the area of database maintenance, database availability and data security. Position Title - Oracle Database Administrator

RESPONSIBILITIES

    Maintains and upgrades oracle databases for production, test and development environments.
    Ensures availability of production, test and development databases.
    Designs, implements and maintains backup and disaster recovery procedures for production, test and development databases.
    Monitors database performance and recommends and implements changes to achieve higher performance.
    Maintains required technical/professional knowledge; keeps abreast of current developments and trends in area of expertise; use this expertise to help develop plans and strategies to introduce new technology when appropriate; recommend and develop innovations which enhance operations and/or provide a competitive advantage.
    Use a structured approach to analyze and resolve complex problems; secures and evaluates relevant data from appropriate sources and trends and identifies key issues and relationships to determine the critical issues relative to a problem; develops effective conclusions and comprehensive recommendations.
    Sets priorities and allocates proper amounts of time to assigned activities. Maintains an awareness of interrelationships among activities. Maintains an organized approach and meets or exceeds agreed upon time and quality standards for end work product.

QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor s degree in computer science or related discipline.
    Minimum of 7 years as an Oracle database administrator.
    Experience configuring, maintaining, tuning and troubleshooting Oracle RAC environments.
    Experience upgrading/migrating Oracle databases from 11g to 12c and beyond.
    Thorough understanding and experience with Active Data Guard.
    Experience with database partitioning.
    Experience with Linux OS a plus.

Position Function
Responsible for providing database administrative support for our client's enterprise database servers, including Oracle and Microsoft SQL Servers; provide Intranet/Internet database solutions and support to clients of Enterprise Information System Services (EISS); effectively utilize the resource areas available within and outside of EISS in order to implement appropriate solutions that address the needs of clients. Help to ensure the high reliability and availability of applications running on local or remotely hosted enterprise systems.
Minimum Education
Bachelor’s degree (but not mandatory).
Minimum Experience
Three years demonstrated knowledge and experience in database server support, system analysis,
design and the tools and technologies available for Intranet/Internet application development. Relational database administration experience with Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle in an enterprise server environment. Demonstrated competency in SQL and creating ETL packages or procedures.
Minimum Other
Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of individuals. Must pass relevant related background/records checks. Ensures maximum availability and performance of the Client's database systems while ensuring IT general controls are strong and enforced. Implements database architectures and system alternatives to keep pace with the industry, enhances practice of Data Management framework (DAMA), and maximizes corporate investment. Assists data analysts with research requests and with determining the cause and extent of problems when they occur. Helps to make recommendations to improve processes and procedures. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develops, documents and rolls out standard process for implementing database and system patch upgrades and new Oracle 12c database environment builds
• Defines, refines, and standardizes database performance and tuning practices
• Refines and manages baseline configurations for the Client's database environment
• Automates routine database functions to ensure accuracy and minimize costs
• Establishes and practices a consistent database backup and recovery practice that complies with the Client's backup and retention policies and business continuity practices
• Performs migration of corporate database systems from Windows to Linux
• Performs migration of corporate databases from Oracle 11g to Oracle 12c
• Develops and follows upgrades procedures to ensure consistency within all Client's databases
• Conducts performance testing and reports on impact of Oracle 12c upgrade on Client's applications
• Enhances the Client's data replication processes to reduce the amount of time between replication using Oracle golden gate 12c.
• Provides 24x7 operational support of corporate production databases on a rotating schedule
• Performs routine production database and application maintenance tasks on a rotating basis
• Monitors all production database activity for operational improvements to include, but not limited to CPU, Disk and Memory utilization, space utilization, replication and consistency of sites, long running queries/data loads, query access plans, security infractions and overall performance of databases Develops and implements corrective measures for database issues/problems found during monitoring.
• Provides database technical support for Technology and Application Delivery projects to include, but not limited to: analysis of database design and schema, database environment provisioning, security assessments, database build executions, database application performance testing/tuning and supporting project deployments. Leads and manages all database aspects of the assigned technology delivery project.
• Provides database technical support in maintaining and building the database non-production environments, including database refreshes, database patch management, database space management, database performance tuning and migration/upgrade of the non-production database environments to Linux/Oracle 12c
• Acts as subject matter expert for all database systems; provides level 2 and 3 technical support for complex database issues. Provides technical input to software developers and end users in the areas of database capabilities, performance and best practices.
• Provides training and guidance to peers and Database Administrators
• Recommends, creates, and follows all relevant policies and procedures to operate a controlled production environment
• Leads and manages database administration activities as assigned by the Lead Database Administrator
• Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in computer related studies with ten or more years of related experience with other DBMS software. Oracle DBA certification is preferred. Must possess advanced knowledge of Oracle DBA administration, Oracle clusters, Golden Gate, database/application tuning, and recovery in 11g and 12c. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Linux/UNIX operating systems, PL/SQL development and IT General Controls.

Ability to work in a fast-paced development environment and provide 24x7 support to ensure continuous market presence. Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, write detailed reports, business correspondence, system requirement documents, procedures, and training manuals.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and staff. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and deal with an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
